Injuries of the auricle

The injury to the auricle should be treated to obtain satisfactory cosmetic results. In individuals who use spectacles and hearing aids, no functional deficit should remain. Common types of injury are clean incision wounds, contusions and contaminated incision wounds and a totally detached auricle. An old haematoma difficult to aspirate may need a small incision. Lack of treatment may result in widespread destruction of the cartilage and a severe deformity of the auricle.
